2005 Twin Turbo GTO
This was my twin turbo GTO project. Bought new in 2005, it
came with the 400 HP LS2 and a 4L65E
automatic trans. I added the sport appearance package (vents in the
nose). I also swapped the factory 18" wheels for Budnik 5 spoke wheels with clear ceramic coating; this eliminates the needs for polishing, they are cleaned with simple soap and water. This was a true rain or shine daily driver.
The twin turbo kit I purchased came from APS in Australia. I am very impressed with
the quality of
the parts and welding. I got the first kit shipped to the US, and had
them upgrade to larger GT3082 turbos, since I was going to use a custom
turbo specific engine (402 cid). One of the things I really liked about this kit
was the low mounted turbos. If you look carefully you can just see the
drivers side turbo in this pic. Completely hidden and all the extra heat is under the car, instead of in the engine compartment. Also the placement and size of the turbos gives instant boost without lag.
The stock LS2 was pulled and set aside. I had Wheel to Wheel in Michigan handle the
long block build. It's a 402 cid stroker, 7.9:1 compression, custom
turbo roller cam, Callies crank, Howards rods, Mahle pistons. Topped it
off with ported 11 degree ET Performance 240cc heads.
With power levels in the 750-800 rwhp range, the trans and rear
end/stub shafts/driveshaft all had to be upgraded. Dr. Evil built the
trans, and Harrop supplied the rear cover/brace. Billet stub shafts and
aftermarket axles and 4" driveshaft were installed. Nitto drag radials were used
out back with standard Nitto's up front. The Nitto drag radials do well in the wet also.
The interior was left mostly stock other than some extra gauges. The
factory blue leather seats are incredibly comfy for long drives. These
cars are a ball to drive, very quiet, comfortable, no rattles or
squeeks.
